Region: Judean Hills Main Cities: Modiin and Jerusalem.
This small tribe settled on the highest part of the Judean hills. Even though the tribe was the smallest in number, and occupied the smallest area of land, it developed into one of the most important of the tribes when Jerusalem became the capital city of the Kingdom of David. The first king of Israel, King Saul, came from the tribe of Benjamin.
In the Hellenistic Period, the Hashmonayim family occupied the area of which the city of Modiin was the centre. The kings of Israel for the next few generations all came from these origins . People from the tribe made their living from growing olives, grapes and various fruits.
